Hai ragione sicuramente.
Probabilmente anticiperò i tempi, visto che il clima per un'invasione lì è quasi più favorevole in inverno (secco e mite).

 

A questo punto della partita non guarderei piu' le stagioni, l'americano è talmente potente che sopperisce alle condizioni avverse.

 

Vero. Ma fino ad ora le ho sempre prese, oppure ho dovuto lasciare pesanti dazi sul campo, per ottenere qualche piccola vittoria.
Per quanto potente possa essere un gruppo aeronavale forte di 17 CV e 9 CVL, bisogna pur sempre tenere presente che, oltre ad avere il doppio incarico di proteggere i trasporti anfibi ed intercettare le portaerei nemiche (sono ancora tutte in circolazione), dovrebbe difendersi anche dalle forze aeree nemiche basate a terra ed il giapponese intorno ad Okinawa di basi ne ha parecchie.
Altri obiettivi strategicamente rilevanti, che forzino, cioè l'impiego della KB avversaria non ne vedo.
Comunque le forze del V corpo d'armata anfibio, al comando del generale Holland "Mad" Smith (3 divisioni marines, due reggimenti di genio d'assalto e una brigata corazzata anfibia, tutte con training 100% sull'obiettivo) hanno ricevuto l'ordine di tenersi pronti all'imbarco.

Se prima di Okinawa hanno preso le filippine ci sara' un motivo, ci hanno sempre raccontato che era uno sfizio di McArtur ritornare a manila ma la verità che prendere Okinawa e formosa senza prendere le filippine era un rischio.
Tu scarseggi di tempo . o ti butti subito sulle filippine immediatamente usando le basi di davao come copertura oppure ti prendi i tuoi rischi e ti butti su Okinawa. a te la scelta. oppure vivacchi e perdi la partita.

Viene stabilito il nuovo obiettivo di MacArthur: la città di Naga (Luzon, Filippine). L'intento è quello di fiancheggiare l'operazione Iceberg.

7-9 novembre 1944

I tre punti del teatro investiti attualmente dalle truppe alleate si dimostrano degli ossi assai duri da rodere.
A Bangkok (Tailandia), pur circondata, non si dispone ancora di truppe sufficienti per far si che l'attacco possa essere risolutivo, a Tinian (Marianne), dove nonostante l'isolamento e i continui bombardamenti dal cielo e dal mare gli attacchi si risolvono sempre con perdite elevatissime e nessun progresso, a Davao (Filippine), dove la mancanza cronica di rifornimenti spunta le armi alleate e rende micidialmente letale la difesa nemica.

SOWEPAC
MacArthur preme per infiltrarsi ancora di più nelle Filippine da un lato ed aprire un corridoio sicuro verso il mar cinese meridionale dall'altro ed ottiene da Nimitz il "go" per invadere Puerto Princesa con l'81^ divisione statunitense e il reggimento di zappatori del II Corpo asutraliano.

Nimitz però è chiaro con il generalissimo: "ti arrangi con quello che hai", perciò la forza navale d'attacco, guidata dall'ammiraglio Daniel E. Barbey, comandante della VII forza anfibia USA e salpata da Makassar (Celebes meridionale) nella notte tra il 9 e il 10 novembre può contare solo sull'appoggio di DD, DE e imbarcazioni più piccole, dato che tutta la potenza americana si sta concentrando a Truk per l'operazione Iceberg, che dovrebbe partire tra qualche giorno.
MacArthur conta sull'appoggio dei bombardieri basati a Mindanao e sulle 34 CVE dislocate nel settore per assicurare supporto e copertura alla spedizione, ma la vicinanza con la base nemica di Manila rende la spedizione parecchio rischiosa.
Ancor di più perchè i gruppi CVE partiti anche loro da Makassar stanno dirigendo verso nord per una sortita nel mar cinese meridionale, dove è stato avvistato parecchio traffico di trasporti giapponesi, sia di truppe che risorse e nafta.

L'idea è quella di infastidire le rotte nemiche per poi ritornare e incrociare davanti a Puerto Princesa, in attesa dell'arrivo della flotta di invasione.
