Infiniti sweep su Rabaul, dove la mia CAP cerca di difendersi alla meno peggio. Poi arrivano stormi di 4E a distruggere tutto.

FlaK anemica ed aerei in CAP abbastanza obsoleti rendono i colpi portati dai 4E davvero difficili da digerire. L'AF, martoriato, sarà aperto anche domani.

Decido di concentrare la mia caccia residua tutta a Rabaul per tenere l'AF aperto e riparare i tantissimi aerei danneggiati. Scarseggiano ampiamente le SUPPLIES, ma si farà con quel che si ha.

Alleato non muove con le CV, che sono ufficialmente CV vere e proprie e non CVE. Si barcamenano a SUD delle Lousiade, Lousiade che pure loro sono state colpite dai 4E in raid secondari. Così come Tulagi.

Io cerco di reggere, ma le perdite nei cieli iniziano ad aumentare:


Supero così i 20,000 aerei persi da inizio campagna.

La cosa preoccupante è che oggi lascio sul terreno 45 piloti morti ammazzati, un po' troppi.

Dopo lo sweep decido di ribasare i Ki-94-II a Kavieng per dar loro qualche turno di riposo prima del prossimo sweep. Scommetto domani Stefano mandi milioni di bomber su Finshafen, base dalla quale sono partiti. La cosa dovrebbe anche darmi un poco di riposo a Rabaul.

Anche le navi del settore convergeranno su Rabaul: non posso proteggerle. Due xAKL però proveranno a sbarcare 3,500ton di SUPPLIES a Talasea. Ho ancora decine di a/c danneggiati al suolo a Talasea e Long Island tra l'altro.

In Australia Occidentale tutto tace, ma non ho ancora mostrato le mie CV nel Pacifico.



3) Teatro India

Qui si consumano massacri di proporzioni bibliche nei cieli di Lahore, dove Alleato sweeppa a testa bassa. L'intero CR in spoiler a pié pagina.

Si parte col mio sweep di KI-94-II dalla massima distanza coi drop tanks e faccio un modestissimo 1-1 coi Mosquito, unica CAP di Multan.

Decine di gruppi nemici sweppano a morte i miei poveri piloti che però riescono a portarsi dietro un bel po' di nemici.
Bomber di ogni tipo seguono ma non danneggiano l'AF, anche grazie al fatto che ho un po' di FlaK e genieri ottimi. Per non parlare del terreno.

Altro turno, altra turnazione. Domani schiereremo ancora 157 caccia di vari tipi (Tojo-IIc, Oscar-IV e George come sempre) a difendere l'importante base. Qui il concetto è di reggere nei cieli per impedire ai bomber di colpire l'AF e quindi i depositi di SUPPLIES. Inoltre, tenendo l'AF aperto posso airliftare comodamente tonnellate e tonnellate di SUPPLIES.
Infine, Alleato manda decine di gruppi aerei in sweep su Lahore, consentendomi di dispiegare indisturbato una difesa di qualche tipo a Delhi.

Compaiono due LCU del Commonwealth a SUD del Thar Desert. Vedremo chi sono i simpaticoni.


La mia visione è di continuare col turnover sui cieli di Lahore il più a lungo possibile mentre porto via squadre varie con l'aviazione. Una volta semi-completata l'evacuazione per via aerea, continuerò a difendere Lahore con la caccia per tenere un minimo aperto il ponte aereo, a quel punto interamente votato a trasferire SUPPLIES.

Il vantaggio che ho è rappresentato dal terreno (urban light) e dai forts lvl=6 e dal fatto che comunque riesco ancora ad opporre una gagliarda resistenza nei cieli, consentendo alle mie truppe di subire sì tanti bombardamenti ma comunque di non essere solo bersagli.
Dubito altamente di poter reggere fino ad Ottobre 1944 come previsto inizialmente. Dipenderà dalla capacità del ponte aereo.

La 'diga' successiva è la linea di Delhi, come noto, dove però dubito di poter far altrettanto bene.

Lahore sta bloccando gli alleati da quasi sei mesi!

Vediamo come performano adesso coi nuovi aerei.


Conto anche di testare il concetto di LRCAP alta.

In principio, io tengo le CAP a quote molto basse e stratificate. Credo però di poter provare a mettere solo LRCAP su una base coi KI-94-II a quote altissime tipo 45.000ft così da avere il dive sui P-47 che arrivano puntuali a 42.000ft. L'idea è che se il gruppo è in CAP ho una vagonata di aerei che vengono massacrati mentre sono in fase di climb dai vari dive dei caccia alleati, che sono per soprammercato anche più maneggevoli dei KI-94-II. Invece, in LRCAP dovrei avere nell'hex solo gli aerei all'altezza della suddetta LRCAP, eliminando così il discorso del climb.
Si parla di piccole quantità di aerei su basi che comunque vengono poi brasate dai vari 4E/2E, ma vale la pena provare.

Notevole anche come gli sweep da 48.000ft siano divertenti ma del tutto improponibili: un gruppo aereo che sweeppa da tale quota ha fatigue oltre il 30 a fine turno! La fatigue dei velivoli è abbastanza ok, con un terzo circa oltre il 10 e gli altri fra 1 e 10. Accettabile se uno ha vagonate di air support.


Fra l'altro il KI-94-II ha SR=3 come i George ed i Frank, cosa che potrebbe rivelarsi utile in CAP.

Presumo una CAP coi KI-94-II sia leggermente diversa da una CAP coi George ed i Frank, che in genere stanno nello strato di mezzo a circa 6.000ft.
I KI-94-II dovranno stare a 9.000ft penso: con un climb modesto, se li tengo a 6.000ft rischio siano in basso assai e vengano massacrati dai dive nemici. Posto si difenda una base bene e dotata di vari radar, naturalmente.


In ogni caso, sostituiranno gradualmente i Frank-R (1.154 in pool e 300 in produzione al mese), aerei immondi al pari dei Tojo (3.180 in pool e 170 in produzione al mese per la sola variante -IIc) che ho sbagliato a ricercare e produrre.
Una scelta migliore in un match normale sarebbe stata produrre dozzilioni di Oscar in tutte le sue varianti e ricercare bene Frank-B (disponibile da Marzo 1945) mentre mi barcameno coi George.
Tojo, Tony e Frank-a/-r sono abbastanza inutili, anche se in teoria il Frank-R sarebbe un ottimo aereo.
In pratica, invece, ha SR=3 come il George finale ma monta 2x20mm in meno e son loro che fanno le kills. La velocità di punta conta il giusto. Meglio il Frank-B che ha meno manovrabilità ma monta 4x20mm.
Il fatto che il Frank-R possa, causa HR sulla seconda banda di manvorabilità, sweeppare a 38.000ft è del tutto irrilevante: Alleato ha comunque in CAP a 42.000ft i P-47 e quindi non si sweeppa da nessuna parte pena perdite orripilanti. Le mie CAP hanno altezze massime di 9.000ft e quindi chissenefrega del ceiling.

In principio, il Frank-B arriva a Ottobre/Novembre 1943 se ricercato bene, quindi c'è solo l'estate del '43 da fare in pesante inferiorità nei cieli. Estate del '43 dove però sono già disponibili i primi Jack e/o George a tenere botta. Tanto più che se uno ha gli Oscar-IV può reggere con loro in difesa.

Nello specifico del match contro Stefano ci sono stati numerosi errori industriali da parte mia. Molti sono dovuti all'inesperienza quando settai la R&D a Dicembre 1941, molti altri sono emersi a causa di mie opinioni bislacche sul corso del match.
Un esempio è l'aver prodotto molti Tojo-IIc, aereo in sé discreto per tutto il 1943. La mia logica era che, essendo assai sovraesteso nel 1942, avrei dovuto affrontare poi una seria e feroce controffensiva alleata nel 1943.
Invece nel 1943 non è successo letteralmente nulla e quindi ho prodotto migliaia di aerei che poi nel 1944 sono inutili.
Sulla stessa lunghezza d'onda la produzione del Frank, aereo che speravo mi avrebbe 'traghettato' al KI-94-II.
Pur essendo entrato in produzione a Dicembre 1943, non ne ho avuto bisogno alcuno dato che: A) Alleato ha iniziato ad attaccare a testa bassa nei cieli da nemmeno un mese; B) il George finale è un aereo complessivamente migliore e l'ho avuto disponibile da Febbraio 1944 ricercandolo ben poco.
La produzione di aerei come il Tony invece è stata dettata più dalla voglia di produrre un po' di tutto che altro.
Direi che un altro errore notevole da parte mia sia stato l'aver investito sulla coppia A6M5+A6M8. Sarebbe stato meglio avere una R&D moderata per ottenere A6M5 e fare molta R&D per avere presto l'A7M2-Sam che, con un po' di fantasia, in inverno '44 lo hai.
Avevo immaginato di dovermi appunto scontrare con gigantesche e decise offensive nemiche perlomeno nella seconda metà del 1943 e quindi ottimizzai la componente imbarcata per tale periodo. Periodo che passò senza colpo ferire (avevo molti turni col combat report letteralmente vuoto!).


Bottom line: Oscar aereo dei sogni per l'IJAAF. George/Jack e Frank-B come 'killers'. I più audaci possono fare Oscar e massiccia ricerca dell'A7M2 Sam + Frank-B, ma il 1943 diventa complicato anche se Alleato fa poco a quel punto.

1) Teatro Perimetro Interno

Non succede nulla. Le CV/CVL di rinforzo da Hiroshima/Kure arrivano all'altezza di Luzon ma serviranno ancora 3-4 turni per farle arrivare a Balikpapan.
In questi 3-4 turni dovrei riuscire a ricaricare di benza le AO veloci a Soerabaja e addirittura a farle salpare se necessario.
La flotta a Balikpapan finisce oggi il refuel, durato ben 3 giorni.


2) Teatro Perimetro Esterno

Non so bene il perché, ma Alleato lancia milioni di bomber senza scorta e senza sweep su Rabaul.
Che l'apparizione dei Ki-94-II gli abbia fatto mettere tutti in difesa?

In ogni caso, la mia CAP a Rabaul regge:


Ho messo praticamente tutti i caccia del settore a Rabaul per reggere l'urto nemico, con l'idea che Stefano avrebbe raso al suolo ogni altro bersaglio ma risparmiato Rabaul.
Mi sbagliavo: ha invece assaltato di nuovo Rabaul, dove la mia caccia è abbastanza inguaiata (431 caccia presenti, 200 in grado di volare, 231 in riparazioni varie).
Sposto i Ki-94-II da Kavieng a Finshafen. Ho moltissimi piloti con fatigue alta, quindi decido di mettere tutti in group reserve salvo i 18 piloti meno affaticati. Metto poi il gruppo a 60% rest, sperando che il 40% in sweep a 48.000ft su Port Moresby (404 caccia nemici) siano 16-17 aerei con piloti poco affaticati (fatigue da 0 a 15). Vedremo.

Nelle Louisiade un gruppo di 36 George con CAP range=1 affronta vari bombardamenti nemici su due isole. A fine giornata sono 4 i George in grado di volare, ma abbiamo difeso l'area.

Alleato intanto avanza con gruppi di CV/CVL/BB vari, il più settentrionale dei quali si vede in immagine sopra. L'altro è a due hex di distanza a SUD-EST.
Parrebbe non vi siano forze da sbarco, ma Iddio solo lo sa: la NavS giapponese non è il massimo...

Credo comunque si parli di uno sbarco. Alleato ha aerei in NavS ma tutti, proprio tutti tutti, i caccia in CAP ed i bomber senza ordini di attacco.
Potrei provare con un gruppo di Peggy(T) a 31.000ft sperando di passare sopra la CAP nemica, ma a questo punto della guerra è davvero dura: troppi radar e troppi a/c sulle navi nemiche.
Inoltre, non ho caccia che potrebbero scortare il tentativo :

Sia i fighter che i fighter-bomber sono decisamente provati.

Fra l'altro ho ancora una cinquantina di caccia danneggiati al suolo a Long Island e Talasea.

Proprio a Talasea, un gruppo di Beaufort VIII australiani oggi mi silura una xAKL carica di SUPPLIES per l'importante base.


Nel mentre, decido di ritirare il grosso delle TF: se Alleato dovesse muovere convinto con le CV sarebbe una tragedia. E credo abbia benza per farlo.
Tutte le TF in immagine, salvo quelle a Kavieng-Rabaul-Talasea, si ritireranno tipo scarafaggi quando accendi la luce:


Preoccupano le due a SUD-OVEST di Kusaie Island: cariche di fanti, sono pure state spottate dalla NavS nemica e sono a soli 18hex dalle CV alleate.
Dovrebbero riuscire a fare 8 e 10 hex, portandosi appena fuori dal range degli aerei nemici. Speriamo.

Le portaerei in immagine andranno come previsto verso Kwajalein Island, a ben 33hex dalle CV nemiche. Anche in full speed, è troppo lontano per raggiungermi. Da lì, vedrò il da farsi. Non sono ancora state spottate.

Io invece faccio partire vari gruppi di sub da Truk. Uno in particolare trasporta ben 96 mine Type 88 e sarà utilizzato per minare passaggi obbligati in caso Alleato si faccia avanti.
Un ulteriore gruppo di 9 sub era disbandato in un hex vicino Shortlands ed oggi si attiva per pattugliarne le acque: con molti Jake in NavS notturna ci sta io becchi qualcosa, anche perché mi pare di capire Alleato vada sempre leggerino sul numero di DD nelle TF aeree.


In Australia Occidentale tutto tace, ma ci sono ancora CVE ad Albany a SUD di Perth.

Qui l'idea è semplicissima. Considerato che il mio piano di far vedere le CV venendo giù dalle Marshall è andato a farsi benedire causa CV nemiche, conto di inviare i 2 CA Tone-Class con 4 DD di scorta da Balikpapan al bordo mappa. Lì, intercetteranno convogli nemici da e per Perth.
Alleato si attiverà con CVE e CA per attaccarmi e lì interverrò con le mie CV e BB poco a NORD. Il piano fa acqua da tutte le parti, ma l'unica alternativa sarebbe fare un giro infinito per arrivare a colpire Albany da SUD con le CV, cosa fra l'altro improbabile viste le poco raccomandabili velocità di punta delle navi a mia disposizione (7+7hex in full speed al massimo).

In fase di posizionamento varie unità di supporto aereo. A breve dovrei poter avere una IJNAF AF Unit (dotata di 1 radar Type 3) in ciascuna delle 5 basi esposte e IJAAF AF Unit a fornire ulteriore air support.
Idealmente, inizierò a proteggere i pozzi con la caccia nel giro di una settimana. Latitano i Jack in pool (23), ma ne produco 50 al mese senza averne avuto manco uno perso fin qui: dovrei riuscire a coprire ogni bersaglio con tali velivoli in tempi ragionevoli insomma.
Mancano i gruppi aerei: 81 A6M8 Zero arriveranno dall'India, ma sono pochissimi aerei. I gruppi IJAAF necessari non sono ancora, ahimé, disponibili a causa della Battaglia di Lahore, a tutt'oggi una voragine di caccia dell'esercito.


3) Teatro India

Alleato lancia pochissimi sweep su Lahore ed i suoi bomber arrivano prima della caccia, consentendo alle mie stanchissime forze aeree di contrastarli in modo adeguato. Eccelsa la performance della FlaK di Lahore, che abbatte i bomber nemici in grandissimi numeri, anche grazie al fatto che sono stati danneggiati prima dalla caccia ed hanno sopratutto perso la formazione.

A fine giornata arrivano vari Spitfire VIII ed è il solito sfacelo, ma reggiamo.

Fra Lahore e Rabaul è una pessima giornata per gli alleati ed ottima per gli imperiali:

Ho solo 8 piloti KIA. Incredibile.
Da notare i ben 18 Avenger abbattuti: erano nei gruppi in NavS di Alleato e si sono schiantati su Rabaul. Mi piacerebbe avere un'idea dell'effetto di queste situazioni: credo la CAP non si 'svegli' quando intercetta questi gruppi in NavS ma potrei sbagliarmi. Il punto è che se la CAP si 'sveglia', dopo, ho aerei in cielo ad altezze più alte di quelle che stimo migliori e quindi facili prede dei caccia alleati che arrivano da sopra.

Ad ogni modo, decido di dare un giorno di pausa ai miei caccia e ritiro l'aviazione da Lahore. Restano in città circa 120 caccia danneggiati che saranno massacrati dai bomber nemici, ma tant'è.
L'airlift prosegue. Adesso sto trasportando SUPPLIES in città ed evacuando con qualche gruppo di Thalia alcune LCU di supporto. Una volta che Amristar, base a SUD-EST di Lahore, verrà presa inizierò ad evacuare altre unità.
Per adesso direi che Lahore medesima è ben protetta, anche se davanti ha 2.500AV alleati ed altrettanti negli hex attorno alla sacca.

Faremo il possibile prima dell'immancabile sacrificio. Banzai!


Nel mentre, prende forma la difesa di Delhi grazie ad imponenti rinforzi fatti arrivare da dovunque. Mancano genieri, i forts sono tutti a lvl=0 e tanti AF lvl=1, ma direi che ci siamo.

Dispiegati anche i primi Jack a difesa di obbiettivi industriali:

• 24 a Bombay
• 12 a Cawnpore
• 12 a Hyderabad
• 24 a Calcutta
• 36 a Ledo
• 81 a Magwe

Caccia notturna ancora dispiegata solo a Calcutta, ma rinforzi (49 Dinah-III-KAI) arriveranno appena finiscono le riparazioni a Shangai.
Non tutti queste basi hanno già ricevuto unità di air support dotate di radar, ma a breve lo avranno (salvo Hyderabad).

Ho ulteriori 81 A6M8 Zero in zona, ma li porterò nelle DEI per proteggere altri obbiettivi industriali.

In India decido che terrò circa 10 gruppi di caccia per difendere la prima linea.
Idealmente, tutti IJAAF con l'idea di avere 8 gruppi in difesa che si alternano a gruppi di 4. Proverò il Ki-94-II in CAP, cosa che non so se è troppo fattibile a causa del climb rate immondo. Tenterò sia un utilizzo canonico a 6.000ft o 9.000ft, sia un nuovo tipo di CAP con Tojo ed Oscar a 2-3.000ft e 5-6.000ft come sempre ed i Ki-94-II in CAP a 25.000ft circa. In principio questa nuova CAP dovrebbe consentire ai vari Ki-94-II di non finire nello strato più basso dei miei aerei quando ci sono sweep nemici, ma non sono sicuro. Inoltre, mancherei i bomber. Farò qualche test. In caso non riesca ad avere risultati soddisfacenti, sarò costretto a tenere i gruppi di George in India.
Se avrò successo, lascio i seguenti gruppi di caccia in India (tutti da 49 ciascuno):
- 3 gruppi di Ki-94-II (uno deputato a sweep);
- 4 gruppi di Tojo-IIc (preferisco Oscar-IV ma ho tanti Tojo in magazzino e sto perdendo troppi Oscar)
- 3 gruppi di Oscar-IV
Se l'industria potesse star dietro alle perdite, avrei solo Ki-94-II ed Oscar-IV ma produco solo 14 Oscar-IV al giorno (420/mese) e nelle ultime settimane sto accusando perdite molto maggiori ogni giorno fra India e SOPAC. Con circa 3.800 Oscar in pool potrei permettermelo tranquillamente, ma ciò non risolverebbe il problema delle migliaia di Tojo-IIc in magazzino. Usando di più i Tojo-IIc ho perdite maggiori, ma industrialmente è più fattibile. In termini di piloti KIA comunque non cambierebbe molto: anche con un 30% in più di perdite causate dall'uso del Tojo invece dell'Oscar, si parla di relativamente pochi piloti.
In CAP terrei 4 gruppi alla volta con 3 gruppi di Oscar/Tojo a fare da esche e dogfighters ed 1 gruppo coi Ki-94-II a fare da picchiatori. Così facendo riesco a difendere una base alla volta (Delhi in questo caso) mentre gli altri 5 gruppi riposano (ad Agra) ed 1 gruppo di Ki-94-II sweeppa o si riposa. 10 gruppi per difendere fondamentalmente una o due basi è tanto, ma così siam ridotti: gli alleati hanno migliaia di caccia ed anche più bomber. Schierare 4 gruppi alla volta ha il vantaggio che posso usare AF lvl=4, che son veloci da tirar su. Abbisogno di almeno un paio di altri AF lvl=4 lungo la 'linea di Delhi'.

La scure alleata si abbatte su Shortlands. Il nemico riesce in un turno a sbarcare dozzilioni di unità, mentre la Base Force cerca di colpire il nemico alla meno peggio. Ben pochi i colpi sparati ed ancor meno i centri.

Il nemico prende terra.

In tutto ciò, l'azione coordinata dei miei sommergibili mette a segno un siluro sulla CV Victorious ad opera dell'I-34. La reazione dell'ASW nemica fa affondare l'eroico sommergibile. Il Capitano Yoshitomo, avvertito dell'azione del collega, si lancia verso la posizione indicata nell'ultimo report di uno dei tanti Jake in ricognizione notturna.
Il buon Akashiba non sbaglia. I suoi Jake danno le coordinate precise e l'I-35 di Yoshitomo piazza tre siluri al traverso della Victorious che si inabissa.

BANZAI!

A questo punto è strage di Avengers in NavS, attirati dalle mie navi a Rabaul. Un gruppetto riesce però ad individuare un convoglio di PB ed xAKL e me ne affonda due ciascuna. Altri sfortunati si infrangono contro la CAP di Rabaul.

Le portaerei alleate si ritirano a fine giornata, lasciando le CVE espostissime nell'hex di Shortlands. Nessun bomber nemico arriva su Rabaul, segno che la scoppola data loro forse è stata più forte di quanto immaginato.

I miei Ki-94-II sweeppano Port Moresby e vengono massacrati. Ne perdo 4 per un solo abbattimento nemico.

Da notare, evidenziate, le LCU portate in base appena ho sgamato le CV nemiche a Brisbane. Provvidenziale il trasporto di esse: la base adesso ha 425AV contro i 150AV che aveva pochi giorni fa.

Alleato ci va giù pesante con ben due divisioni di fanteria e due unità di tank. Questionabili le due Base Force ed il Naval Construction Battalion. Solo una unità di combat ENG, per giunta australiani che mi pare di ricordare abbiano pochissimi rimpiazzi (ma potrei sbagliare alla grande).

Le difese di Shortlands sono coordinate dall'ottimo Viceammiraglio Shinichi Moizumi, a guida anche della 4a Base Force.

Con sole 220 tonnellate di SUPPLIES, avremo bisogno di rifornimenti a breve. In tutto ciò, però, possiamo contare su forts lvl=5,10 cannoni AT da 47mm e ben 20 dei loro colleghi da 37mm.
Artiglieria in quantitativi irrisori e di calibri questionabili.

Poi il buon vecchio I-32 inquadra una CV nemica, Bull Run, che si presume Essex-Class e piazza tre siluri al traverso degli stronzi:

Nonostante gli incoraggianti report su esplosioni di benza e munizioni, la CV nemica parrebbe ancora a galla. La cosa è inquietante: tre siluri di sub (manco di aereo...!) speravo bastassero. So che non è così ma c'ho sperato davvero ahahah

In tutto ciò, ordino all'aviazione di Rabaul di lanciare mine su Woodlark Island in quella che è la prima missione posamine della guerra. Se vuole rientrare, rientra da altre parti, con tutto quello che comporta: viaggio più lungo ed altri sub e CV a dover coprire la nave rallentata. Distaccherà DMS da Shortlands al 90%, cosa che mi consentirà di schiaffarci le 96 mine Type 88 che ho sui miei sub salpati giorni addietro da Truk.

Dopo la rinnovata offensiva nemica, l'Alto comando decide di inviare nel Pacifico Meridionale molte truppe. L'idea è di presidiare fortemente Ponape, Truk e Woleai.
Anche Babeldaob riceverà truppe. Molte.
Le Marianne sono già quasi del tutto approntate.


2) Teatro Perimetro Esterno

Altra giornata di sangue e terrore.

Gli alleati inviano sweep dopo sweep su Rabaul e fanno scempio della CAP stremata, che comunque riesce a portarsi dietro un congruo numero di P-47D25.
Il tentativo di minare Woodlark Island ha successso, ma è futile: Alleato pare si diriga verso SUD con le CV, cosa bislacca. Ci sta la CV danneggiata non sia ridotta così male come credevo se non cerca di andare al primo porto disponibile. Io sguinzaglio i sub, ma sarà difficile fare alcunché.
Un altro sub viene fra l'altro affondato vicino a Rabaul: i danni subiti dalle ASW nemiche erano troppi.

La situazione:

D a notare le TF a due hex ad OVEST di Munda: sono ancora tutti lì, esattamente dove ho colpito ieri la CV nemica.

Non mi è chiaro però cosa stia facendo, ci sta io mi sia confuso nell'interpretare la NavS e la CV danneggiata effettivamente non si sia mai mossa dall'hex.

Sono un po' perplesso.

A Shortlands il nemico si lancia nuovamente all'assalto e le difese iniziano a cedere:

Se tutto va bene sopravviveremo altri 5 giorni al massimo.

In realtà c'è un fattore assolutamente positivo in tutto ciò: Alleato quando avanza è molto timido con le portaerei di squadra e sopratutto lascia per giorni e giorni le sue flotte nell'hex di sbarco.
Usa le CVE in copertura.
Credo di poter ripetere la battaglia di Milne Bay a breve: lo lascio sbarcare e tornare indietro con le CV/CVL e poi colpisco con la Kido Butai.
Adesso la cosa mi sta un po' inchiappettando perché non posso usare gli aerei da trasporto, pena farmeli abbattere tutti dalle CVE, ma credo che sia un modo sbagliato di sbarcare e conto di punire l'errore al prossimo attacco, posto naturalmente io abbia le portaerei disponibili.
Le sue CVE hanno circa 300 aerei in CAP, quindi in principio potrei attaccarlo con le 6 CV Unryu-Class che ho nelle Marshall, ma decido invece di rientrare a Kwajalein per fare refuel completo. Attendo sviluppi insomma. La mia paura è dovuta al fatto che le CV/CVL nemiche, dopo essersi dirette a SUD, sono tornate a NORD per coprire la ritirata della CV danneggiata dai sub e quindi sono ancora vicine al luogo dello sbarco.

Rabaul sta cedendo. La CAP è stremata ed ho gruppi aerei con tipo 5 aerei totali sui 49 previsti, dei quali 2 in grado di volare.
Morale sta andando a picco per tutti i gruppi salvo i George, importanti guardiani della base. Circa 233 i caccia in grado di volare domani, con 160 danneggiati a terra.

Decido quindi di tenere tutti a terra per un turno, sperando i bomber nemici non arrivino. Decido anche una parziale evacuazione di alcune navi e truppe e gruppi aerei verso Kavieng e Truk. Rabaul ha pochissime SUPPLIES (nemmeno 6.000ton) ma un convoglio con oltre 45.000ton dovrebbe arrivare domani in porto. Vista l'assenza di CAP, sarebbe un po' rischioso provare a farlo sbarcare ma devo tentare.

Credo Rabaul non reggerà ancora a lungo: presto dovrò ritirarmi dai cieli della New Britain.

Da notare il morale di molte squadriglie...:



La situazione nel SOPAC è complessa insomma.

Da oltre un anno e mezzo ho ritirato il grosso delle mie truppe dalle basi più esposte, tenendomi imperniato su Finshafen-Umboi Island-Rabaul: sono loro la vera barriera. Il problema è che questa barriera sarà superata in un amen dagli alleati, che a questo punto del match hanno una superiorità disgustosa in ogni campo.

La mia visione è di creare un paio di fortezze in mezzo al nulla: Ponape e Truk. Essendo lontane dagli AF nemici, dovrei riuscire a difenderle un minimo.
La linea difensiva vera e propria è quella delle Marianne, lì sono disposto a dare la battaglia decisiva.
Il grande, gigantesco problema è rappresentato dalla PNG.


Le basi fra Madang e Hollandia sono deserte e non sviluppate e giudico impossibile difenderle. Per assaltarle Alleato ha da sfondare lo Stretto di Vitiaz, ma non credo sia infattibile per lui dato che non riesco più a rifornirlo (qualunque cosa si avventuri ad OVEST di Rabaul viene polverizzata all'istante).
Credo che incentrerò le mie difese su Nabire, base che sviluppai ad AF lvl=6 tempo fa come protezione indiretta per il Mare degli Arafura. Nabire, cerchiata in blu in immagine, è abbastanza ok come posizione geografica, anche dovesse cadere Hollandia. Le altre tre basi cerchiate in blu saranno il supporto di Nabire medesima: ho notato che la soluzione migliore è sempre avere basi di supporto qualche hex fuori raggio della caccia nemica.

Adesso si prospetta un periodo di forte riorganizzazione (come solito...).

Decido di:
I) Prelevare 3 NavGuards dall'area di Tabiteua (3 atolli intorno ad essa) per rafforzare le basi delle Marshall che ho lasciato sguarnite per rafforzare il SOPAC (Mili e Alinglaplap);
II) Prelevare NavGuards nelle minori delle Marshall per dispiegarne almeno una per hex lungo le basi della PNG fino ad Hollandia;
III) Far arrivare circa 1,200AV da Onshu per difendere Ponape, Truk e Woleai, prelevando contestualmente LCU non necessarie da tali basi;
IV) Completare la difesa delle Marianne portando ART pesante e tank in ciascuna di esse;
V) Popolare di ENG, air support e truppe il cluster di Nabire;
VI) Portare ultimi rinforzi a Kavieng&co, cercando fra l'altro di usare più Kavieng che Rabaul;
VII) Partenza di convogli con centinaia di migliaia di tonnellate di SUPPLIES (prevedo circa 500.000ton siano necessarie) per fornire riserve adeguate alle Marianne (70,000ton l'una) ed altre basi tipo Ponape o le Marshall;
VIII) Partenza di convogli di FUEL per le Marianne;

L'idea generale è di creare difese un minimo passabili nella PNG per obbligare il nemico ad organizzare gli sbarchi, mentre creo stock nelle Marshall. Le Marshall sono importanti perché creano un saliente sul fianco di Alleato e sopratutto lo obbligano a fare giri improponibili con le rotte mercantili e so che ha davvero il fiato corto in questo campo.

Prevedo di non riuscire a tenere la linea della New Britain fino al 1945 come sperato. Sopratutto, ci sono almeno 4 divisioni di marines da qualche parte nel Pacifico e tremo all'idea di dove le impiegherà.


3) Teatro India

Qui invece riusciamo a dire la nostra. Mentre la caccia si ribasa a Delhi/Agra e si riorganizza, Alleato cerca di bombardare Lahore subendo molte perdite a causa della FlaK.

Tentativo di shock attack nemico a Sringar, dove i miei SNLF respingono l'assalto nemico. Molto bene.

La linea intorno a Delhi sta prendendo forma e sto distribuendo divisioni ed AA in giro.

SUPPLIES in crisi nera che più nera non si può.

Finché i convogli arrivano ad Onshu dalle DEI, l'industria va avanti senza problema alcuno, meglio di un orologio svizzero.

Siamo messi malissimo quanto a SUPPLIES, ma navighiamo a gonfie vele riguardo la benza, quindi direi che le cose si pareggiano.
I combattimenti in India e nel SOPAC sono voragini di SUPPLIES, ma è meglio tenere il nemico lontano dai nostri interessi vitali e pagar dazio che averlo magari già nelle Marianne a bombardare Onshu.

Abbiamo 3.000 PP e siamo in sofferenza ai punti vittoria: 2,533:1 in nostro favore.

Presto sfonderemo il tetto dei 100.000PV, cosa non da tutti nel '44 e contro avversari così prudenti.

Con l'affondamento della CV Victorious, ci portiamo a casa la quarta CV affondata in questa campagna. Tutte inglesi.
Le prime tre le affondai a fine Maggio 1942 nell'Oceano Indiano.
Mai affondata una CV americana, ma se un sub ha fortuna nei prossimi turni potrei raggiungere tale importante traguardo.

In 1.000 turni di gioco non c'è stato un singolo incontro fra CV imperiali ed alleate. C'è stato uno scontro (che ho perso) fra CVE nel Febbraio del 1943 però.
In realtà ci sono state due occasioni nelle quali le mie CV hanno tirato sulle sue: una è stata nell'Oceano Indiano quando gli affondai le CV inglesi e l'altra fu ad inizio 1943 quando provò a sbarcare diretto a Rabaul: lui aveva in entrambi i casi tutti i caccia in CAP e quindi non c'è stato nessuno strike di risposta. A Rabaul persi centinaia di piloti d'élite e non ottenni risultati ma lui si ritirò, cosa che per me fu una grande vittoria.

Di BB io ne ho persa una, la Hiei, a Socotra a fine Agosto 1943. Alleato ha apparentemente perso 7 BB (Force Z inclusa), delle quali è realistico pensare solo 5 siano venute giù. Tutte inglesi. La Force Z e 3 vecchissime R-Class (queste a Maggio 1942).

Credo abbia oltre 25 BB attualmente. Meno male che non credo abbia l'infrastruttura logistica per usarle al massimo.


Con l'arrivo dell'A7M2-Sam a breve dovrei avere una piccola finestra nella quale le mie CV possono giocarsela contro le sue se ho ampio supporto dell'aviazione a terra e lui invece no. Insomma: Marianne.



Qui si giocherà la guerra, temo.

Babeldaob e Peleliu sono pericolosamente esposte e senza AF di supporto: sarà difficile difenderle. Almeno, Babeldaob ha 35.000 di SL e quindi posso schierare un numero abbastanza alto di truppe. Con forts lvl=9 sarà una noce dura da rompere.
Dall'India ed Onshu sto già iniziando a portare avanti gruppi IJNAF per presidiare i cieli delle importanti isole.
Considerata la somma dei livelli degli AF, posso dispiegare 2.350 'motori' nelle 8 Marianne. Non è poco.

Inizio a mandare truppe varie a Nagoya, base che ho deciso essere il punto di raduno per l'invio di matériel nel Pacifico.

Decido anche di inviare varie unità di ENG dalla costa EST di Onshu alle Marianne&co. Serviranno per velocizzare la riparazione delle infrastrutture.
Per ora, presidio pesantemente solo Guam e Rota.

In fase di organizzazione anche l'invio di truppe per la costa NORD della PNG, zona dove sono debolissimo e che è il vero ventre molle dell'Impero. Finché reggo nello Stretto di Vitiaz, non c'è pericolo. Il problema è che lo Stretto di Vitiaz è molto aggredibile a questo punto del match.


2) Teatro Perimetro Esterno

Tengo la mia caccia a terra a Rabaul per dare un turno di respiro e scopro che anche Stefano dà un turno di respiro ai suoi. Solo un centinaio fra Corsair e P47 si palesano su Rabaul.

I miei sub falliscono e l'I-25 viene affondato, non prima però di aver centrato in pieno il CL Adelaide. CL vetusto ed australiano quindi relativamente utile a priori.

L'assalto a Shortlands è un'altra carneficina per i miei:

Ci sta la base cada domani. Le mie CV interverranno, forse, fra due giorni. A quel punto tenterò anche un assalto aereo da Rabaul, nonostante la mia caccia sia allo stremo e notoriamente gli attacchi dell'LBA facciano acqua da tutte le parti.

Le portaerei alleate hanno fatto due hex di tragitto parrebbe. A bordo la mia NavS mi indica 1.300 aerei.

La situazione a Shortlands è disperata, ma reggere un altro poco mi consentirebbe di provare l'attacco sulle CVE nemiche, con l'ulteriore vantaggio di avere molte truppe in una base in mio possesso, cosa che riduce grandemente le perdite di piloti.
Altro fattore interessante è che non credo l'Alleato potrebbe intervenire con le CV se continua a coprire la CV danneggiata.


Dalla sua prospettiva penso abbia senso a questo punto rimanere con le CVE a coprire Shortlands e le CV a coprire quella danneggiata, visto che possiedo ancora molti AF seri e non danneggiati in giro (cluster di Guadalcanal e quello delle Louisiade).

La mia forza d'attacco è incentrata sulle 6 Unry-Class a mia disposizione, scortate solamente da DD.
Ho 177 A6M + 141 D4Y4 Judy + 55 B6N2 Jill. Conto di tenere 23 A6M5c Zero in CAP a 10.000ft e mandare tutti gli altri in strike, possibilmente a 5-6hex.
Con uno strike potenziale di 196 DB/TB coperto da 154 caccia potrei passare la CAP nemica (circa 300 Hellcat quasi tutti a 10.000ft) e portare sul bersaglio una forza sufficiente a sfondare qualche CVE nemica, cosa che di per sé sarebbe una vittoria anche Shortlands dovesse cadere nel mentre.
I gruppi imbarcati sono ottimi, specialmente i piloti di siluranti, tradizionalmente l'élite dell'élite della mia aviazione.
NB: la CAP è così modesta perché, sebbene Alleato abbia circa 100 siluranti ancora imbarcati, credo siano tutti in ASW e comunque con range minore di 6. A 6hex infatti c'è Rabaul e quindi i suoi Avengers avrebbero provato ad attaccare il naviglio in loco fossero settati con range di almeno 6hex. Bottom line: a perlomeno 6hex di distanza sono al sicuro da strike imbarcati nemici (ma non di qualche bizzarro aereo nemico a lungo raggio in skip bombing).
Ho una preferenza per 5hex, ma tant'è. 6hex va comunque bene. Domani proverò a mettere una TF di DD appena fuori Rabaul per vedere se ha range=5hex. I DD dovrebbero sopravvivere uno strike di siluranti nemici.


In sbarco quasi 50.000ton di SUPPLIES a Rabaul e copiosi quantitativi di truppe a Kavieng. Qui l'idea è di rafforzare Namatanai e di trasferire piano piano altre truppe verso Finshafen ed Umboi Island.
Un ponte aereo con gli Emily da trasporto sta rafforzando Ontong Java con 90AV. Non che aiutino molto se il nemico sbarca, ma almeno evitiamo scherzi dai parà.


A Balikpapan proseguono le lente operazioni di refuel alle portaerei. Dispongo di una forza d'urto di tutto rispetto con 3 portaerei di squadra ed 8 portaerei leggere. Naturalmente, molte di queste navi sono decisamente lente/fragili/obsolete, ma si fa quel che si può.
A mia disposizione 500 aerei precisi imbarcati, dei quali 60 in reserve e quindi 440 per azioni varie. Mancano i ricognitori, in arrivo a breve da Onshu. Molti comunque gli FP disponibili (quasi tutti Jake).
Al netto degli aerei in reserve, ho 272 caccia (fra cui 18 A6M2 Zero - 127 A6M5 - 127 A6M8), 64 D4Y4 Judy e ben 84 siluranti (9 Kate, il resto B5N2 Jill).
Con un po' di fantasia, posso portare sul bersaglio 148 aerei d'attacco fra picchiatelli e siluranti, con una grande proporzione di quest'ultimi rispetto ai miei standard. Con un mix di A6M8 ed A6M5 dovrei anche riuscire a dare un'ottima copertura ai miei. Il nemico dispone di forze di superficie notevoli, ma solo 5-6 CVE, con un totale di 110-140 caccia e 50-60 bomber. Il mio obbiettivo è affondare le CVE, ma i siluranti spero si accaniscano contro i CA, bersagli che potrebbero diventare ostici in un follow-up al turno successivo. Ho le 2 Yamato-Class ed 8 Incrociatori Pesanti di varie classi a disposizione. 8 CLAA e 60 cacciatorpediniere dovrebbero aiutare in un eventuale scontro di superficie, cosa che cercherò di evitare se non posso forzarlo in diurna. Se posso forzarlo in diurna, bene. Sennò, tutti a casa. Dipenderà dall'entità dei danni al nemico con gli strike aerei.

Posto naturalmente Alleato faccia qualcosa una volta che mostro i 2 Tone-Class a bordo mappa e le Unryu-Class a Shortlands. Qui servirà fortuna, ma di meglio non ho a questo punto del match.
In principio potrei anche provare a colpire Albany, dove sono le CVE nemiche, facendo un infinito giro a bordomappa e comparendo da SUD in full speed con le portaerei.
Potendo al massimo fare 7+7=14hex in full speed, però, dubito fortemente una manovra del genere riesca, anche se Alleato parrebbe non avere NavS così a SUD. 7+7 di full speed e diciamo 6-8hex di distanza dello strike renderebbero possibile provare (mi dovrei posizionare a 20-22hex di distanza da Albany) ma mi eviterei la cosa molto volentieri. In caso Alleato non reagisca alla manovra dei 2 Tone-Class, sarò costretto a tentare.

Che poi se le disbandasse in porto sarebbe più semplice perché coi Judy-IV porto comunque una bomba da 800KG a 10hex ed una da 500KG a 12hex, quindi sarei in grado di colpire il porto partendo da più lontano, ma se le tiene attive in TF non posso.
Da notare che Albany è a 22hex da Corunna Downs, AF a tutt'oggi in mio possesso e lvl=5 dotato di AirHQ. Potrei ribasarci tranquillamente un 150 Nell per dare una spintarella in più all'attacco sulle CVE. 72 però i caccia nemici in CAP, oltre che quelli delle CVE naturalmente.


3) Teatro India

Qui la situazione è in una fase di rallentamento. Il nemico ha sfondato ed accerchiato Lahore tempo fa, ma le mie truppe sono ancora barricate in città con 35.000ton di SUPPLIES e forts lvl=6.
Alleato manda ogni turno centinaia di caccia in sweep e poi bomber su Lahore. Lo lascio fare. La FlaK fa attrito. Il problema è che i danni all'AF di Lahore iniziano a salire e vorrei tenerlo aperto.

A Delhi ho concentrato una forza enorme e sto creando una linea difensiva per il post-Lahore. Dubito fortemente di poterla difendere efficacemente, ma tant'è.

Dato che ho tantissima AA, un'opzione sarebbe addirittura di ritentare un contrattacco per aprire la sacca di Lahore, ma non son convinto.



Finché tenevo Ambala, base selezionata in immagine, aveva senso tentare. Ora dovrei farmi molti hex allo scoperto da Delhi verso NORD sotto le bombe di centinaia di aerei.
Notare anche che ho problemi di SUPPLIES.
Direi però che potrebbe avere senso un tentativo di contrattacco su Ambala per alleggerire la pressione su Lahore una volta che Alleato inzia ad attaccare quest'ultima. Credo però che il suo modus operandi sia di far finire le SUPPLIES in un assedio di qualche mese (che per me sarebbe una manna dal cielo).

Assaltare Ambala sarebbe importante perché attualmente Delhi ha il fianco OVEST assai fragile e non reggerebbe un assalto Alleato dopo che le truppe nemiche impegnate a Lahore saranno libere. Con Ambala in mio possesso dovrei invece poter aprire una via di rifornimento per Lahore, aumentandone la capacità di resistenza.

Si parte con sweep poco convinti su Rabaul, dove la mia CAP regge bene.
Poi arrivano i bomber e non è una bella notizia...:


La mia CAP si difende abbastanza bene facendo pagare un caro prezzo ai nemici. La FlaK è sottotono ma regge bene anche lei.

A fine giornata arrivano altri sweep ma la mia CAP è già decimata e vanno a vuoto.

Le perdite, comprese quelle sofferte in India, sono minime grazie al cielo (15 piloti KIA e 5 MIA):

Intanto, continuano i duelli fra i miei sub e le TF nemiche intorno a Shortlands. La CV nemica danneggiata, coperta da dozzilioni di navi come solito, torna indietro, verso Woodlark Island. Credo che i danni siano così elevati da costringere Alleato a cercare di riparare nel porto più vicino dopo aver provato a ritirarsi verso un porto grande. Ci sta anche che voglia portarla a Milne, cosa che non sarebbe sbagliata visto che è un buon porto ed ha un ottimo AF.

Andata. Molto male. Do ordine alle CV Unryu-Class di rientrare a Kwajalein. E' la seconda volta in tre giorni.

Alleato in ogni caso ha ritirato le CVE, quindi non avrei potuto colpire anche Shortlands avesse retto un turno in più.

Moltissime APA a Townsville, credo che il nemico stia imbarcando ondate di truppe per gli sbarchi successivi che possono essere solamente lungo la linea Finshafen-Rabaul-Namatanai.
Giusto oggi ho inviato rinforzi a Namatanai. Per Finshafen (e Umboi Island) ci sarà da attendere.

La situazione è disperata lungo lo Stretto di Vitiaz, dove non reggerei un assalto nemico. E' invece plausibile reggere a Rabaul. Namatanai è protetta da Rabaul medesima, ma ci sarà da fare attenzione. Finché riesco a contestare i cieli di Rabaul, anche se a caro prezzo, Alleato ha vita dura a sbarcarvi.

In compenso, appunto, lo Stretto di Vitiaz è tragicamente a corto di SUPPLIES e non posso nemmeno portarvene perché la caccia, o quel che ne resta, è tutta a difesa di Rabaul. Giusto oggi ho fatto upgrade a due gruppi di Oscar-IV che avevano 6 aerei in due. Con l'upgrade a Tojo-IIc adesso hanno di nuovo 98 aerei disponibili anche se da riparare: devo assolutamente aumentare il numero di Tojo-IIc persi e diminuire quello di Oscar-IV.

Forse, ma dico forse, riesco in qualche modo a riposizionare qualche squadriglia a Talasea ed usarla come tappa intermedia per qualche FastTransportTF verso Umboi Island & co. Fra l'altro dovrei anche trovare il modo di trasferire genieri a Long Island, il cui AF è distrutto e con sole 36 squadre di ENG non si ripara.

Il convoglio con quasi 50.000ton di SUPPLIES ha sbarcato quasi tutto a Rabaul. Porterà unità di AA da 20mm verso Truk al rientro (e, da lì, saranno poi trasferite in Manciuria alla prima occasione utile).


Decido di far partire la flotta da Balikpapan. Farà refuel dalle AO a SUD di Den Passar e via: non voglio farmi cogliere impreparato casomai il nemico dovesse attaccare in questo settore: ho perso di vista le CVE nemiche (ci sta sia errore mio).


3) Teatro India

Qui si parte coi miei di sweep. Su Multan trovo una CAP incazzata di P47 e Corsair ma i KI-94-II fanno 7-7 sul nemico.

Su Ambala ed un'altra base nemica faccio invece scempio del nemico (P40 e P38) coi miei George e Frank.

Alleato sweeppa a vuoto Lahore e poi bombarda. I danni all'AF salgono, ahimé.

Io invece rispondo inviando circa 150 Oscar-IV in strafe su una unità solitaria nel deserto. Nessuna perdita e molti veicoli nemici danneggiati o distrutti. Molto bene.

In tutto ciò, sto ritirando dal Teatro le squadriglie non più necessarie. Si parla di un paio di squadriglie per l'IJAAF e 3 per l'IJNAF.

Resteranno le squadriglie a protezione delle industrie e 10 di caccia IJAAF.

Nota interessante:
Contando solo gli a/c con più di 40 esemplari in pool, ho raggiunto quota 22.000 aerei in magazzino! Magnifico.

14.000 IJAAF e 8.000 IJNAF.

12.000 caccia e 8.500 bomber fra DB/TB/LB.

Direi che ho un buon pool di kamikaze, considerato sopratutto che moltissimi di questi aerei sono moderni. Mancheranno i piloti, ahimé. L'addestramento va comunque avanti.


Altra nota interessante:
Apparentemente ho steccato 626 P-47D25 fin qui.
Tale modello entra in produzione a Marzo del '44 e dura fino a Giugno del '44 con 175 aerei al mese. Contando i 4 mesi di produzione, sono circa 525 gli aerei che gli arrivano (o 700? Cioè, a Giugno '44 produce o no?), cui si sommano 150 aerei che gli arrivano nei gruppi.
Ad occhio, direi che ha aerei prodotti anche a Giugno '44 e la produzione totale è di 850 visto che pare averne ancora diversi in volo. Comunque, credo di avergli quasi svuotato i pool.
Cosa non vana: i prossimi P-47, i P-47N, arrivano da Marzo '45 (ad un tasso di 100 al mese).
In realtà i P-47 non sono un gran problema per me, ma fa comunque piacere abbatterne tanti. Il mio guaio sono i Corsair, aerei demoniaci e presenti in miliardi di esemplari. Gli Spitfire VIII sono, pure, terrificanti ma c'è solo un gruppo nemico che riconosco avere piloti decenti.

Arrivano i primi ENG per Rota e Guam a Nagoya: partiranno a breve. Si parla di 16x3=48 squadre di ENG per ciascuna isola.


2) Teatro Perimetro Esterno

Alleato sweeppa Rabaul che lascio opportunamente senza CAP. Ho bisogno di riposo.

I miei Emily iniziano a prelevare i superstiti di Shortlands da Torokina, dove si sono ritirati. Il nemico ha già bomber e fighter a Shortlands medesima tra l'altro.

Le CV e CVL nemiche si muovono in modo sempre più erratico ed inizio a pensare o che la CV nemica danneggiata sia venuta giù (dubito: solo tre siluri ed avrei dovuto vedere ground losses) oppure che mi è sfuggita di vista.
Adesso le CV nemiche sono di nuovo andate accanto a Munda, dove ho colpito la Essex-Class due turni fa. Mi viene il dubbio che Alleato abbia cercato di andare a SUD il primo turno e poi il secondo sia tornato sui suoi passi verso NORD-OVEST per farla disbandare a Milne o Woodlark Island e che le CVE ritirate da Shortlands abbiano da oggi preso il posto delle CV/CVL nella copertura della nave danneggiata.
La mia NavS, nonché recon, è come al solito molto limitata.

Vedremo. Le CV nemiche ci sta anche provino a lanciare un raid verso NORD, in full speed raggiungerebbero addirittura Truk. In normal speed potrebbero colpire Kavieng che verrà opportunamente evacuata proprio oggi.
Inoltre, continuo a vedere grosse concentrazioni di navi, palesemente in TF da sbarco, a Townsville. Resta da capire per fare cosa.

Fatto sta che oggi perdo ben due sommergibili nell'area. Per contro però gli colpisco un DD con un siluro e credo sia affondato.


3) Teatro India

Una divisione di fanteria americana si sta infilando fra Jodhpur e Delhi. Io sweeppo gli AT nemici colpiti ieri e trovo un solitario Corsair che abbatto coi Frank-R.

Alleato bombarda furiosamente Lahore ma gli infliggo un bel po' di perdite causa FlaK. Da notare come i miei reparti di FlaK in città abbiano valori di fatigue intorno al 5, ma valori di disruption oltre l'80. Molto male, ma si continua a combattere.

In tutto ciò, le SUPPLIES a Lahore sono grossomodo stabili, ma l'AF accumula sempre più danni. Non faccio in tempo a ripararlo che viene crivellato di nuovo. Posso ahimé far poco.

Alleato parrebbe tranquillo riguardo Agra e Delhi, visto che fin qui né ha sweeppato né ha bombardato ma mi aspetto un assalto nemico a breve.
Fra l'altro non vedo da un po' di turni i B-29. La cosa può essere interpretata in tre modi: A) il nemico si sta ancora leccando le ferite dopo l'ultimo raid dove li ho crivellati; B) il nemico ha trasferito gli aerei in un altro Teatro; C) il nemico è pronto e gagliardo e cerca solo un target adeguato da sfasciare. In ogni caso, non posso far nulla, quindi amen.

Si parte con i miei sub che cercano di rientrare sani e salvi a Truk e non ingaggiano alcunché.

Un sub alleato mi affonda l'ennesima E ad OVEST di Truk.

Dopo aver tenuto l'aviazione a terra ieri immaginando una pausa di Alleato nei bombardamenti, decido che probabilmente pensa oggi io tenga su la CAP a Rabaul e quindi rischio il secondo turno di fila senza CAP. Va tutto bene ed i copiosi sweep alleati vanno a vuoto.

Io invece parto sweeppando Shortlands, dove abbatto qualche Corsair coi KI-94-II.

Avevo poi individuato un convoglio di navi nemiche varie ed eventuali, probabilmente danneggiate, in rientro verso l'Australia e grossomodo fra le Louisiade e Woodlark Island. Ieri, quindi, avevo posizionato zitto zitto un gruppo di Judy-IV a Rossel Island, tutt'oggi in mio possesso e con un ottimo AF lvl=4.
Il range=2 avrebbe dovuto evitare scherzi. Fatto sta che le CV alleate si portano proprio accanto a Rossel Island ma la mia aviazione, per una volta, decide di agire assennatamente ed attacca in due mandate le navi nemiche, che si trovano invece proprio 2hex ad OVEST di Rossel Island medesima. Il bottino è simpatico (soprattutto, affondo la mia prima APA!):

Non cambia naturalmente niente nello scacchiere, ma fa sempre piacere affondare naviglio nemico.

In tutto ciò, individuo ben 10 xAK ad OVEST di Perth. Peccato non avere le navi in posizione: sarebbe stata un'azione perfetta per far scattare la mia imboscata.


3) Teatro India

Si parte con vari sweep imperiali che hanno risultati interessanti. Non per gli abbattimenti in sé, quanto per gli aerei coinvolti.
I miei George e Frank-R colpiscono varie basi nemiche e LCU fra Delhi e Lahore, ma trovano CAP solo su una divisione di fanteria nemica. Il singolo P-40 viene prontamente abbattuto.
Poi è il turno dei Tojo-IIc sulla unità di AT accanto a Bikaner e finisce in un simpatico 7-6 in mio sfavore contro i P-47D25 in CAP a 15.000ft da lunghissima distanza.
Orde di Oscar-IV si abbattono poi sulla malcapitata LCU che sorprendentemente non si sbanda. Credo abbia ancora qualche camion da distruggere prima che lo faccia.

In tutto ciò, Alleato sweeppa Lahore coi soliti numeri (report consolidato):

Si parla di 379 caccia in sweep. Di cui 183 P-47 di varie versioni. E meno male che ha sweeppato pesantemente Ludhiana, sennò servivano tre pagine per elencare gli aerei nemici.

In sostanza, inutile anche provare a reggere l'urto nemico quando sono in ballo certe cifre. Abbiamo combattuto per settimane sulla base contro orde del genere, ma credo di non essere in grado di difenderla ulteriormente, sebbene ad oggi l'AF sia abbastanza operativo (runway damage = 0 ma service damage = 71).

Conto oltre 1.200 caccia solo sulle basi su cui faccio recon..... Non dico altro.

Nel SOPAC è peggio. Molto peggio.

Mando verso Onshu un fracco di xAP e xAK veloci dalle Marianne: porteranno altra gente nell, appunto, Marianne.


2) Teatro Perimetro Esterno

Si parte con dozzilioni di sweep e bombardamenti su Rabaul. La CAP come solito regge, ma le perdite sono elevatissime.

A fine giornata non riesco nemmeno più a sparare con la FlaK. Credo i serventi ai pezzi si siano stancati troppo. Sta di fatto che la mia CAP comunque riesce a respingere un bel po' di nemici. Complice una saggia imboscata con una quarantina di George ad Umboi Island, il conto del macellaio nei cieli è largamente a nostro favore:

Da notare come su 166 aerei persi io abbia avuto solo 14 piloti KIA ed 1 MIA. Sono anche riuscito a mandare una qundicina di piloti IJNAF nel TRACOM.

L'AF di Rabaul è ancora agibile, ma non troppo. I danni sono ingenti, ma posso ancora far volare CAP. Domani disporrò di circa 180 caccia in grado di volare e 350 in riparazione.

Stefano sta approcciando male Rabaul. Invece di perderci centinaia di aerei, dovrebbe portarsi a portata di naval bombardament e mandare dozzilioni di TF di 3-4xDD a bombardare per sfoltire le mie MTB. Poi continuare a sweeppare e mandare dei P-40 in strafe per farmi altre MTB.
Dopo qualche turno, bombarda coi CA.
Il turno dopo con le BB.
Con AKE disbandate a Shortlands fa avanti indietro in giornata (6hex di distanza), ma può riuscire anche da Woodlark Island (9hex) e bombarda ogni giorno. Basta una TF di 4xCA con annessi DD a tenere la base chiusa e farmi dozzine di aerei al suolo.

A quel punto mi ritirerei a Talasea (impossibile da bombardare dal mare ma anche più difficile da difendere con la caccia per me) e Kavieng, come fece Blizzard. Lì sono cazzi, ma sono due basi abbordabili per i soli bomber.

Sono anche riuscito a sbarcare un 1.500ton di SUPPLIES ad Umboi Island con un convoglio di APD. Avevo messo una quarantina di George in CAP bassa ed Alleato ha mandato un bel po' di DB e TB, scortati da Hellcat, per colpirmi. Li abbatto tutti facendone grande strage e sbarco ogni cosa senza problemi. Molto bene.

Credo di aver affondato il sub americano Mingo accanto a Truk.


3) Teatro India

Alleato sweeppa Lahore ma non bombarda. Credo voglia conservare i bomber per un assalto deciso ad Agra? Non lo so.
Sta di fatto che io sweeppo di nuovo la LCU di AT che sto massacrando in strafe e mi porto a casa alcuni P-47D25.

I George sono aerei stupendi, di gran lunga il miglior aereo a mia disposizione.

Alleato bombarda blandamente Srinagar, base nelle montagne del Pakistan e tagliata fuori da mo'. Viene poi assaltata da truppe varie che la catturano, mentre i miei SNLF si rifugiano nelle foreste.

Oggi tengo la caccia a terra e faccio male. Gli sweep alleati sono meno convinti e numerosi del solito, complice anche il fatto che Alleato sweeppa un po' dovunque nell'area Finshafen, ma poi arrivano alcuni bomber che fanno male.
La FlaK si comporta dignitosamente come sempre, ma le piste di Rabaul continuano ad accumulare danni ed io continuo a perdere aerei a terra. Le perdite di velivoli non sono minimamente preoccupanti, quello che inquieta è che il morale delle squadriglie va sempre più a picco. Domani potrò opporre circa 200 caccia però.
Circa 35 aerei persi per parte quest'oggi, molto bene.

Ho bisogno di più ENG a Rabaul. E di altre SUPPLIES: le 50.000ton portate pochi giorni fa stanno venendo consumate ad un ritmo preoccupante (2.000ton al giorno!).

Alleato presto sarà pronto per avanzare per il prossimo sbarco. Stimo in massimo una settimana il tempo prima di vedere infinite TF arrancare da Townsville verso NORD-EST. Probabilmente meno di una settimana.

La CV Bull Run, Essex-Class, danneggiata da un sub durante le operazioni a Shortlands credo sia affondata. Non la vedo da nessuna parte e con tre siluri in pancia credo avrebbe dovuto disbandarla a Woodlark Island. Anche ammettendo si sia ritirata, non vedo TF che vanno ad una velocità plausibile o che hanno rotte probabili. Insomma, mi sa che è venuta giù.

Sta anche emergendo la teoria di inviare un paio di CA Furutaka-Class, i più vetusti a disposizione dell'Impero, a Rabaul per usarli in bombardamento costiero. Non che poi io possa fare molto, ma se dovessi riuscire a bombardare Woodlark Island con i grossi calibri, poi, potrei sweeppare un minimo ed essere ragionevolmente sicuro di far passare i bomber per finire le navi danneggiate in porto. Idem con Milne Bay.

Nel Pacifico sta però emergendo il problema della benza. Devo rifornire Truk&co, ma ci sono dozzilioni di sub nemici, che rendono la cosa pericolosa per le mie TK.
Penso che userò le AO veloci per rifornire le Marianne una volta che ho svolto l'operazione ad OVEST di Perth mentre 4 AO lente da 13knts si occuperanno di fare un giro infinito per rifornire Marshall e Tabiteuea.
Truk medesima invece sarà rifornita con un grandissimo convoglio di xAK: anche se ne perdo alcune cariche, amen. Al ritorno porteranno RESOURCES fra l'altro. Si parla comunque di quantitativi modesti, dato che la flotta raramente fa scalo in porti maggiori quando è utilizzata (per motivi di intelligence: un sub fortunato può tentare un attacco e far scoprire le mie carte anche se non fa danni).


In tutto ciò, le mie navi per l'imboscata a bordomappa ad OVEST sono in navigazione dopo che ieri hanno fatto un generoso refuel dalle AO veloci. Vedremo come va.


3) Teatro India

Abbatto un P-47D25 e poi lancio millemila Oscar in strafe e distruggo una LCU di AT che stavo colpendo da giorni.

Alleato sweeppa Lahore ma non la bombarda. E' da vari turni non la bombarda e la cosa mi lascia perplesso. Dubito fortemente abbia problemi di rimpiazzi per i bomber, persino per quelli inglesi. Non so bene che pesci prendere e nel dubbio mi chiudo in CAP su Agra e Delhi casomai volesse colpire loro.

Il ponte aereo procede di gran carriera e le SUPPLIES a Lahore sono stabili: grande notizia.

Mi sa che se le son fumate le canne... Vuoi mettere che svarione con tutte le esplosioni davanti nella rada della base?


Sì, nei cieli ce le stiamo suonando, ma per ora reggo. Il quantitativo di roba buona che hanno gli alleati è disgustoso. Tanto più che hanno maree di gruppi aerei quindi può turnare con grande facilità.

Il Ki-94-II non lo sto ancora impiegando in grandi numeri, quindi non so bene se ne sia valsa la pena ricercarlo. Sta di fatto che comunque è improbabile anche solo pensare di reggere a caccia e bomber nemici. Finché c'è uno o l'altro tengo botta però. Per ora.

Si parte subito con due sub imperiali danneggiati che sono silurati dai sub alleati intorno a Truk. Molto bene.

Poi Alleato sweeppa moderatamente Rabaul e fa seguire i bomber. Respingo gli attacchi nemici al prezzo di gravi perdite.

Io sweeppo a mia volta Shortlands ed abbatto alcuni Corsair al prezzo di un KI-94-II.

A Townsville ci sono oltre 220 navi disbandate in porto e molte di più in un quantitativo infinito di TF. Mi sa che presto avremo da gestire uno sbarco... Qualcosa mi dice che sbarcherà proprio a Rabaul. Potremo fare ben poco, temo.

Nel mentre, Alleato sweeppa furiosamente Darwin, dove un coraggioso gruppo di Tony difende la base come può subendo perdite orripilanti.

Strafe di P-47D25 e Spitfire VIII su Corunna Downs, base nel deserto australiano da cui faccio NavS e recon in profondità.

Avevo messo un gruppo di KI-94-II a Ludhiana, base accanto a Lahore. LRCAP=20% settata su Lahore con range=0. Altezza 43.000ft.

Fatto sta che si comportano decentemente contro gli sweep nemici, abbattendo alcuni aerei e subendo a loro volta varie perdite. Poi arrivano orde di B-29 ma sono troppo in basso per essere intercettati.
Infine, però, becco gli aerei da trasporto del nemico e ne abbatto ben 12. Molto, molto bene:

Io invece lancio un ground bombing a 100ft su una LCU nel deserto e trovo una CAP di P-47D25. Incredibilmente, i miei 3 Nick abbattono un P-47 senza subire perdite. Veramente prodigioso.

Pare inoltre Alleato stia iniziando un movimento da Ambala. Vedo LCU in uscita dalla base e c'è una divisione di fanti americani a NORD. Posso fare poco.
