We all heard about the Russian plane “buzzing” our Donald Cook in the Black sea, but we were never told that after the incident the Cook was rushed into a Romanian port where 27 members of the crew filed a letter of resignation. It seems that all 27 people have written that they are not going to risk their lives. This is indirectly confirmed by the Pentagon statement according to which the action demoralized the crew of the American ship.

Here’s what actually happened during the “buzzing” incident…

US destroyer "Donald Cook" with cruise missiles "Tomahawk" entered the neutral waters of the Black Sea on April 10. The purpose was a demonstration of force and intimidation in connection with the position of Russia in Ukraine and Crimea. The appearance of American warships in these waters is in contradiction of the Montreux Convention about the nature and duration of stay in the Black Sea by the military ships of countries not washed by this sea.

In response, Russia sent an unarmed bomber Su- 24 to fly around the U.S. destroyer. However, experts say that this plane was equipped with the latest Russian electronic warfare complex. According to this version, "Aegis" spotted from afar the approaching aircraft, and sounded alarm. Everything went normally, American radars calculated the speed of the approaching target. And suddenly all the screens went blank. "Aegis" was not working any more, and the rockets could not get target information. Meanwhile, Su-24 flew over the deck of the destroyer, did battle turn and simulated missile attack on the target. Then it turned and repeated the maneuver. And did so 12 times.

Questo sistema elettronico russo si chiamerebbe "Khibiny".

Ora, giacchè la fonte è "La voce della Russia" , si tratta di propaganda (che ne sanno i russi se gli schermi di una nave USA funzionano o meno?) o davvero esiste questo dispositivo con capacità di mandare in corto l' Aegis?

Electronic Warfare

Defensive systems in legacy and production Flankers include a Radar Warning Receiver, mostly variants of the SPO-32 / L150 Pastel digital receiver carried. The latest subtypes like the Su-35BM/Su-35-1 carry the KNIRTI L175M Khibiny M Radio Frequency Surveillance (RFS = ESM/RHAW) system, initially developed for the Su-34 Fullback. The Khibiny M is believed to use a channelised receiver and most likely employs a wideband dual baseline interferometer in the forward sector, to permit passive targeting of Kh-31P and R-27P/R-77P variants in defence suppression and air combat roles.
Newer Flankers carry the podded wingtip mounted KNIRTI SPS-171 / L005S Sorbtsiya-S mid/high band defensive jammer (ECM), this system being an evolution of a jammer developed for the Backfire C. The Sorbtsiya-S, unlike most Western jamming pods, is designed to operate in pairs and uses forward and aft looking steerable wideband phased arrays to maximise jamming effect, a similar arrangement to the Eurofighter Typhoon EWSP package. It is worth observing that the Sorbtsiya is clearly built to provide cross-eye jamming modes against monopulse threats, and the wideband mainlobe steering capability provided by the phased array permits best possible utilisation of available jamming power. A graded dielectric lens is employed. Russian contractors have been recently using Digital RF Memory (DRFM) technology, which is of the same generation as the US IDECM EWSP, and competing Israeli systems.

The most recent defensive jamming equipment to be offered on Flanker variants is the new KNIRTI SAP-518 wingtip jamming pod, displayed at MAKS 2009. Concurrently KNIRTI displayed a high power support jamming pod, the SAP-14, intended for centreline carriage on a large pylon. To date little has been disclosed on these pod designs, which are likely to retain the wideband phased array / lens antenna system first used on the Sorbstiya.

Russia's Kaluga Scientific Research Institute for Radio Technology (KNIRTI) debuted a model of its newest electronic warfare (EW) system, destined for the Sukhoi Su-35, at the Dubai Airshow 2013.

The system, designated L-265M10-02, is a modernised version of the L-175VE Khibiny jammer installed on the Su-32/34 intermediate-range bomber. KNIRTI representatives explained to International Defence Review that the new jammer is more modular than the previous model. "In this newer variant, the centreline pod is optional and the aircraft can provide for its own self-protection with just the two wingtip pods."

However, the addition of a centreline pod can enable the host aircraft to serve as an escort jammer, working in accord with other systems built into the aircraft's tail 'stinger'.

 

Il sistema è noto da tempo, ma che abbia simili capacità ... ???

Ho perfino letto che il Cook è stato ritirato in Romania per 'accertamenti' ...

Se fosso vero (ma mi sembra quasi incredibile) l'intero sistema di protezione AA della US Navy sarebbe improvvisamente obsoleto ... roba da suicidio di massa nelle alte sfere ...

E visto che anche il sistema BMD regionale si basa su AEGIS ...

 

Pensa - sempre se fosse vero - ai risvolti di questo jammer nel contesto Pacifico, con i cinesi che comprano questo regalino dai russi!

 

...interessante anche l'effetto psicologico che avrebbe provocato, sempre se vero, che mi sembra un pò notevole per un semplice black out... Ed il riconoscimento della volontaria violazione del trattato di Montreux

Il fatto che non si vedano mai carri significa che non se ne immagina l'impiego? Oppure che vengono spostati - magari nottetempo - lontani da occhi indiscreti?

 

La spiegazione (da neofita di warfare moderno) è che potrebbe essere un'unità di fanteria, le colonne di corazzati si potrebbero spostare per altre direttive.

Quello del filmato è un reggimento di fanteria motorizzata, con artiglieria organica.

Molti dei carri russi più moderni (presenti ad occidente degli Urali) sono impegnati in esercitazioni (a Ekaterinenburg) e nella preparazione delle Parate della Vittoria di Maggio, a Mosca ed il altre città - il che potrebbe significare che i russi a breve non hanno intenzioni particolarmente bellicose
