be il giapponese non puo' difendere per sempre con gli aerei. finiscono, e poi se dai tutto li che è distantissimo dal Giappone ti sfinisci e poi come lo difendi la madre patria?
tu ti stai incaponendo in birmania che nel fine 1944 non ha tutta sta importanza.

 

tu devi cercare lo scontro aereo navale. una sconfitta della kb anche solo parziale annulla la sua forza. seccata la kb o abbandona oppure fai quello che vuoi , sbarki dove vuoi, bombardi dove vuoi. e della birmania te ne freghi.
anzi se distruggi truppe le ricrea a Tokio in 30 giorni , e se vuoi sbarcare nel futuro in giappone sara' impossibile.

So che il settore principale è il Pacifico ed infatti lì sto concentrando tutto il potenziale aeronavale/anfibio, ma riuscire ad utilizzare tutte le truppe di terra del commonwealth sino ad ora bloccate in retrovia perchè rimaneva chiuso il collo di bottiglia di Rangoon non è poca cosa, non fosse altro che per congiungersi con le forze di MacArthur nelle Filippine ...

I rifornimenti per le truppe alleate intorno a Rangoon raggiungono e superano il livello utile per l'attacco e dopo un violentissimo bombardamento aereo contro porto e aeroporto, tutte le unità di terra vengono messe in movimento.

Con quel porto importantissimo nelle mani del comando britannico, i rifornimenti, che già hanno iniziato ad essere caricati sui convogli a Colombo, Madras e altre città importanti dell'India, non faticheranno più a raggiungere le truppe alleate, come successo finora.
Moulmein è una spina nel fianco giapponese e continua ad essere rinforzata da truppe e materiali e si spera di chiudere in una sacca le truppe giapponesi in ritirata da Rangoon e zone attigue - già sotto pesantissimi bombardamenti aerei - con conseguente ed auspicabile loro annientamento.
Con le unità terrestri nemiche che si presume siano state ritirate da questo teatro, la coperta giapponese a copertura della Thailandia e della Malesia si fa molto corta e finalmente il potenziale terrestre del commonwealth, potrà essere schierato interamente sul terreno, con un costante e imponente flusso di rifornimenti.

La ricognizione successiva a questi attacchi segnala scarsissima resistenza, tanto che MacArthur decide di tentare la conquista della città con un'operazione aviotrasportata, prima che arrivi la TF anfibia che trasporta le truppe del XXIV corpo, evitando così a queste unità il logoramento di uno sbarco in territorio nemico.
L'operazione viene affidata a elementi del 503° reggimento paracadutisti di stanza a Manado.

 

4 settembre 1944

I paracadutisti del 503° reggimento aviotrasportato prendono Cotabato senza incontrare resistenza e la TF del XXIV corpo USA è a un giorno di navigazione dalla Città, la presa di Mindanao è solo questione di tempo.


I parà del 503° prendono Cotabato senza sparare un colpo; in navigazione a ovest di Dadjangas la TF anfibia che trasporta le fanterie della 7^ divisione USA e il comando del XXIV Corpo.

Prosegue martellante l'offensiva aerea contro le truppe giapponesi in ritirata da Rangoon. Tra qualche giorno verrà investito l'importantissimo nodo ferroviario di Pegu, il cui possesso permetterebbe alle forze alleate di far circolare rifornimenti in tutta la Birmania. Allo stato, invece, Toungoo, Mandalay e tutte le città a N vivono su quelli che vengono lanciati dagli aerei da trasporto.
Anche dal mare la flotta alleata cannoneggia Pegu e le truppe in movimento accusano il colpo.

In pochissimo tempo è stata fatta affluire a Rangoon una quantità considerevole di rifornimenti e si stanno ripristinando porto e aeroporto, in modo da poter utilizzare entrambi completamente.



Anche a Moulmein stanno arrivando una moltitudine di uomini, mezzi, rifornimenti e la guarnigione aerea può disporre da oggi di altre due squadriglie di P47D25.

Edit: A Saipan è arrivata la prima squadriglie di B29-1 e ... sorpresa, non hanno il raggio per bombardare il Giappone :O !


Toccherà aspettare la versione 25 ...
Intanto però si possono incominciare i raid su Okinawa, al cui assalto si stanno addestrando 2 corpi d'armata anfibi ...

 

5 settembre 1944
Mentre le truppe alleate che incalzano quelle giapponesi in ritirata da Rangoon arrivano in vista di Pegu, che verrà attaccata il 6 e nel Pacifico si avvicina la data dello sbarco a Ulithi, il generale MacArthur mette piede sulle spiagge di Cotabato, insieme al comando del XXIV Corpo e alla 7^ divisione di fanteria degli Stati Uniti, tenendo fede alla promessa di tornare, fatta quando aveva dovuto lasciare precipitosamente le Filippine, nel 1942.

Per la campagna di Mindanao, oltre alle due divisioni statunitensi, vengono messe a disposizione del XXIV corpo anche la 9^ divisione di fanteria australiana, che dovrà essere trasportata da Balikpapan, dove ora è di stanza, l'11^ divisione avioportata USA, il cui trasporto aereo da Manado incomincerà alle prime luci del giorno 6 e presumibilmente durerà 3/4 giorni, oltre a due reggimenti di cacciacarri, due di genio da combattimento e parecchie unità di seabees.
L'aviazione da bombardamento tiene sotto il proprio tallone le città dell'isola ancora occupate dai giapponesi, prima tra tutte Davao, obiettivo più importante per il porto.

Birmania - Area del Sudest asiatico

le truppe alleate attaccano Pegu, la città ad est di Rangoon, dove si sono raccolte le truppe giapponesi in ritirata da nord e da ovest.
Pur sotto un incessante e violentissimo attacco aereo e con la situazione dei rifornimenti pessima, i diavoli del sol levante riescono a respingere il tentativo alleato, che deve arrestarsi dopo un giorno di accaniti combattimenti a causa della stanchezza degli attaccanti, i cui depositi cominciano ad essere non più in grado di alimentare l'offensiva.

Il comando alleato decide di sospendere gli attacchi a Cagayan in attesa dei rinforzi in arrivo da Cotabato, città in cui vengono trasferite due squadriglie di caccia, pur non essendovi ancora unità con air support, ma che verranno avioportare durante la notte da Manado.

La presenza di copertura aerea basata a terra potrà permettere il ritiro della air TF 119 (9 CVE + scorta), finora utilizzata per proteggere lo sbarco di rinforzi e rifornimenti sull'isola.

 

12 Settembre 1944

In Birmania prosegue travolgente l'offensiva britannica. Dopo aver attraversato il fiume Sittang verso SE, le truppe alleate ingaggiano i giapponesi e li costringono ad arretrare verso est nella giungla, congiungendosi con le truppe di Moulmein.

Poco di rilevante da segnalare oggi e nei giorni precedenti.
La ricognizione in Birmania segnala una aumentata presenza di truppe giapponesi (circa 50000 uomini) a O di Raheng, ma il comando alleato dubita che si tratti di un tentativo di attacco verso la linea costiera tra Pegu e Moulmein, volto a interrompere le comunicazioni tra le due città appena liberate.
Nel dubbio tutti i bombardieri dell'area saranno impiegati in quella zona, per fiaccare ulteriormente truppe che dovrebbero essere già molto provate.

A Mindanao prosegue lo sbarco di uomini e mezzi a Cotabato e il movimento delle truppe di attacco verso Davao, che nei prossimi giorni si tenterà di espugnare.

Nel mar cinese meridionale i sub cominciano ad ottenere qualche successo, anche se con il contagocce e a prezzo di perdite elevate

Già dal colpo subito il 17, i comandi alleati avevano immaginato che l'aereoporto di Pisanuloke era il punto d'appoggio principale della difesa aerea giapponese nell'area così, nella notte tra il 22 e il 23 settembre viene progettato un imponente attacco aereo sulla base, volto a diminuirne di molto l'efficacia.
Fin dalle prime luci, centinaia di apparecchi alleati prendono il volo dalle basi birmane e ne ritornano la sera, avendo ottenuto un discreto successo:
