Oggi non è accaduto nulla di rilevante: un mio mercantile di rientro da Midway è stato silurato proprio mentre rientrava a PH. E' stata la sua fortuna, è già nei cantieri navali.
Da segnalare l'alto numero di aerei persi per usura oggi dai Japs: Mazzocco sta usando parecchio la sua arma aerea in tutti i settori, soprattutto DEI e Burma, magra consolazione per ora!

Continua l'offensiva jap nel Borneo: è stata pesantemente bombardata dal mare Bandjermasin, oramai le truppe olandesi sono allo stremo. Oggi cadono molte basi alleate: Shaohing, Paoting, Uttaradit e Bandjermasin. A Wenchow respingo a fatica un attacco nemico e i forts sono scesi a zero!
Nel tentativo di rallentare la caduta di Bandjermasin provo un attacco aereo contro i cargo nemici ma gli Zero in CAP fanno strage di A-24 Banshee:

Si conferma la maledizione di Java. Forse per errore di Mazzocco, la mini KB oggi era senza CAP ed i miei aerei (anche se pochi a dir la verità) hanno provato a colpire in diverse riprese la Hosho, la Zuiho e la Ryujo senza successo!!!
In compenso ho affondato il DD Harusame (che ieri aveva urtato una mina) e danneggiato in modo serio un cargo.
Da oggi inoltre l'isola è tagliata in due, ma non ho intenzione di arrendermi tanto presto!

Giornata intensa quella appena passata. Intorno a PH perdo 3 AK in altrettanti attacchi sottomarini: purtroppo non dispongo più di DD libere a PH essendo tutte impegnate in compiti di scorta e ho provato a usare piccole TF di cargo incustoditi...pessima idea, le acque intorno alla base USA sono infestate di SS jap. Un cargo perso purtroppo trasportava 5 P-39D destinati alla difesa aera di Midway.

Altra giornata positiva questa per l'aviazione Anglo-olandese di base a Java. Vengono danneggiate altri due AK mentre un terzo affonda silurato dagli ultimi aerosiluranti disponibili.
Ma la notizia del giorno è il danneggiamento della portaerei leggera Zuiho: debolmente difesa dai Zero è stata centrata da 2 bombe da 300 Kg e da una bomba da 250 lb. Tutte hanno sfondato il ponte di volo e causato seri danni alle strutture interne: questo il messaggio ricevuto nell'ultimo attacco.

Domani tutti gli aerei disponibili andranno ancora all'assalto delle navi nemiche per arrecare il maggior danno possibile! Sto cercando di far arrivare altri aerei dalla costa Nord Australiana ma occorre ancora un paio di giorni.



A Bataan (Luzoon) riesco a mettere insieme gli ultimi caccia disponibili dopo giorni di forzata inattività e al prezzo di 3 P-40E riesco a far perdere al mio avversario 2 Zero e 2 Sally. Di più non potevo pretendere dai pochi apparecchi rimasti operativi (me ne rimangono 5 in tutto adesso)

Ho anche deciso di ritirare quello che rimane dell'armata di Burma a Lashio e la di entrare in Cina: le truppe con supporto aereo saranno preziosissime mentre in India non farebbero alcuna differenza.

Tutte e quattro le mie CV USA sono in mare, proverò una sortita in grande stile nel medio e nord Pacifico.

A Java la mia aviazione non si risparmia e attacca a più riprese la mini-KB: purtroppo colpiamo solo un DD in modo serio. Le CVL sfuggono alle bombe ma forse, dico forse, oggi la Zuiho è affondata per i danni riportati ieri: nel report delle perdite aeree "Ground" vi sono 30 aerei persi dal mio avversario tra Zero e Kate (giusto il carico della Zuiho). Ad ogni modo le CVL avversarie stanno navigando verso nord quindi ho spostato molti bombardieri nel nord dell'isola con anche 30 caccia in missione escort mentre una decina di sottomarini sono in appostati sulla rotta delle navi nemiche.

La battaglia aeronavale attorno all'isola di Java continua senza sosta.
Ho provato a lanciare in un'azione corsara il CL Sumatra (tutto quello che avevo a Soerabaja e pure danneggiato) contro le navi nemiche che stanno sbarcando a Banjoewangi, nella punta sud dell'isola, ma non ho avuto fortuna. L'incrociatore è ancora a galla ma è a rischio affondamento.

Un'immagine della Cina? Dove pensi di fermarlo?

 

La linea gialla indica la mia prossima linea di difesa ideale sfruttando il terreno e i fiumi. Putroppo le truppe cinesi sono lentissime a muovere e non faccio in tempo a distaccare le unità giapponesi che mi sconfiggono esagono dopo esagono non concedendomi il tempo di far rifiatare le truppe.
Sto spostando a Sian tutti i bombardieri disponibili per cercare di colpire e rallentare le avanguardie jap ma è poca cosa (piloti scarsi ed effetti praticamente nulli).

 

Questa cosa è un incubo anche per me.
Cmq indicativamente anch'io ho scelto la stessa linea di difesa, speriamo.

Ancora una giornata di furiosi combattimenti aerei a Java: purtroppo perdo molti aerei a causa della CAP di zero ma almeno colpisco altri 4 AK nemici (oggi non rientrano alla base ben 25 tra caccia e bombardieri). Non credo che potrò sostenere perdite di questo tipo ancora a lungo però gli aerei disponibili stanno vendendo cara la pelle.

Successo nella lotta sottomarina: la petroliera Teiyo Maru (capacità quasi 12K ton. di carico) si prende due siluri ma per ora non risulta affondata.


Nelle DEI gli aerei anglo-olandesi cercano di colpire altri cargo nemici ma gli zero non perdonano e nessuna nave risulta danneggiata a fine giornata, solo da registrate altre perdite tra le file dei bombardieri alleati (oramai i caccia sono così scarsi che non possono offrire grande protezione).

La KB al completo fa la sua comparsa a Suva: identificati anche dei trasporti poco più dietro, credo che Mazzocco voglia già conquistare l'isola. Makassar resiste eroicamente ad un nuovo assalto jap ma i forts sono scesi a zero e al prossimo assalto la sua guarnigione si arrenderà. Cadono anche le città di Probolinggo e Dili. A Timor, nonostante abbia un buon numero di bombardieri a Koepang, nessuno di questi si alza per contrastare lo sbarco nemico in ben 2 giorni! Potevo almeno vender cara la pelle visto che i trasporti non erano protetti...una vera occasione sprecata.
